Contract workers help make an arrest

Contract workers helped capture one of the suspects, who allegedly robbed a shop in Germiston on Wednesday.

A 22-year-old suspect was arrested for an alleged business robbery in the Germiston CBD on Wednesday.

This was after the suspect and his friend went into a shop, in Hospital Street, pretending to be customers.

One of the men pulled out a knife and demanded money and cellphones from the two employees in the shop.

The two made off with cigarettes, airtime vouchers, cellphones and money.

One of the victims ran after the suspects shouting for help.

Contract workers, who were working on a nearby road, saw the suspects running out of the shop and gave chase.

The contract workers captured the 22-year-old who had the victims’ cellphones.

The other suspect got away with money and airtime vouchers valued at R1 500.

Germiston SAPS officers arrived at the crime scene and arrested the one suspect.

“Nobody was injured and the suspect was detained at the Germiston Police Station pending his appearance in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court,” said Capt George Raphulu, head of communications for the Germiston SAPS.
