Electricity shutdown in Katlehong a rumour

The City of Ekurhuleni has released a statement ensuring the people of Katlehong that Eskom customers in the area will not experience any electricity shutdown.

The City has issued a press release stating: “There will be no electricity shutdown in the entire area contrary to messages that are in circulation. Supply has been restored to Goba, Zuma and Mavimbela Sections which were without electricity in the past week.”

The statement further reads that Ncala Section remains without electricity since February 19. This after community protests erupted and prevented Eskom technicians from completing the installation process of split meters in the area.

This installation is part of Eskom’s efforts to upgrade the electricity network in the area in order to address the overloading of transformers, illegal connections and unplanned outages.

Until Eskom is satisfied that the safety of its employees is not compromised, technicians will unfortunately not be attending to any electricity related issues in the area.

Eskom remains committed to ensuring reliable electricity supply in the area and in Katlehong as a whole.

Customers are encouraged to report any unplanned electricity interruptions and Eskom commits to communicate all planned electricity outages due to maintenance.

For any electricity related enquiries, customers are requested to call Eskom’s contact centre on 086 003 7566. Its a 24-hour line, or SMS the query and account number/meter number to 35328 (ELECT) or send an email to customerservices@eskom.co.za
