Three killed in two weekend crashes in Ekurhuleni

Three people were killed in two separate crashes involving multiple vehicles.

Three people were killed in road accidents on Saturday involving motorcycles, trucks and a minibus.

An Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) rescue team from the Primrose Fire Station responded to a call at 6pm on Wit Deep Road in Boksburg.

Two bikers, believed to be a couple, died after a head-on collision with a truck on the road.

“Upon arrival, two people and a motorcycle were found lying on the road next to each other in front of an articulated truck,” said William Ntladi, district manager media liaison for DEMS.

“The two adult patients succumbed to their injuries and were declared dead on scene by paramedics while the truck driver escaped with no injuries.”

In a separate incident earlier that same day, a rescue team from the same fire station responded to an accident on Johann Rissik Road in Primrose, involving a minibus and a truck.

“Upon arrival, rescuers had to use the Jaws of Life to free trapped taxi passengers before rendering pre-hospital medical treatment.

“Unfortunately, an adult female patient was declared dead on scene while four other passengers sustained serious injuries and six others including, the drivers of both vehicles, sustained minor injuries.

“All the patients were road transported to various medical facilities in Ekurhuleni,” said Ntladi.

In both crashes, inquest dockets were opened by local EMPD officers.
