Elandsvallei in the spotlight this Mandela Day

Elandsvallei Home for the Aged got some much-needed renovations when the volunteers from the Red Bin Brigade and Primrose SAPS visited for Mandela Day.

The importance of Mandela Day, celebrated each year on Nelson Mandela’s birthday, July 18, can be summed up in one quote from the iconic leader.

“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived.

“It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.”

Each year people across the country and even the world celebrate the idea that each individual has the power to transform the world and the ability to make an impact in their community by dedicating 67 minutes to a charity organisation or project.

This year the Red Bin Brigade, who fall under the Mamba Group and raise funds for local charities, visited and dedicated their time to the Elandsvallei Home for the Aged.

The team, with the help of members from the Primrose police, the Primrose SAPS Crime Prevention Youth Desk and volunteers from local home-schooled families, painted the home giving it some much needed TLC, on Wednesday.

The group was in high spirits throughout the visit, with the true spirit of the day shining through in each smile and laugh.
