Weather Service warns of potential veld fires and damaging winds in Gauteng
Hot and dry weather conditions could lead to veld fires in southern parts of Gauteng, while persistent rainfall in the northern parts of Tshwane may lead to flooding.
The South African Weather Service today released a warning of potential veld fires and damaging winds.
The service’s website explained that the hot and dry weather conditions gripping most of the province has lead to an extremely high fire danger.
The weather service has also predicted that the uncommonly high temperatures that have been experienced over the past few days will drop to the low 20s and high teens heading into the weekend.

The service this morning released the following warnings:
- Damaging Winds
Strong winds are expected in Gauteng from this afternoon.
- Veld Fires
Veld Fires may be expected in places in Gauteng due to the hot weather.
- Flooding
Road flooding possible due to persistent rainfall in northern parts of Tshwane (from the Hammanskraal area spreading very slowly south to the Cullinan area).

Motorists are reminded to take the necessary precautions when travelling.
They are encouraged to reduce speed and increase their following distance and headlights should be kept on at all times to increase visibility.
Residents should also ensure that they shelter their pets.
