Elderly enjoy a cuppa for a good cause
SAVF Greater Germiston Care of the Aged hosted a successful International Tea for the Elderly event.
The Hoërskool Oosterlig hall was full of smiles and laughter as guests enjoyed the SAVF Greater Germiston Care of the Aged International Tea for the Elderly.
The event was a special occasion, not only because it brought together residents from several of the SAVF’s old age homes and their families, but also because it celebrated International Day for Older Persons and the organisation’s 114th birthday.
The tea also aimed to raise some much-need funds for SAVF Greater Germiston Care of the Aged to continue its work.
The organisation, situated in Elspark, has been delivering services to the elderly community of Germiston for many years and does not receive a subsidy from the Department of Social Development.
“We are always looking for ways to raise money for the association,” said June de Villiers, SAVF Greater Germiston Care of the Aged chairperson.
The fun-filled morning saw actress Fatima Abdool taking to the stage as just one of a number of motivational speakers.
She encouraged guests to be true to themselves and not to allow anyone, even family, to take advantage of them.
The speeches were followed by a number of entertaining activities including a dance-off.
The event was a great success and was enjoyed by all who attended, young and old.
