The learners of Galway Primary School have been hard at work this year studying and honing new skills.
But for 30 female learners, aged between 12 and 14 years old, their learning has not been limited to the classroom as they have been learning several new skills from the members of the Vroue Landbou-Unie’s Dinwiddie branch.
Women, from the 20-member strong group, have visited the school on Mondays, since the second term, to pass down their home industry skills.

The group’s projects have included sewing and knitting, with the focus shifting to beadwork for the year’s final term.
“This year our theme is ‘Uplifting a Woman Outside of the VLU’ and what better place to start then with the young women in our community,” explained VLU member Priscilla Atkins.
Priscilla further explained that the VLU were thrilled with the turnout and love teaching the children.
“It really had been a lovely experience,” she said.
The girls and their teachers began work on beaded earrings, last Monday. Once these are finished they will work on a matching necklace.
