LamDel calls for resolution to power woes

The LamDel Residents Association has called a public meeting to voice its and residents’ concerns about ongoing power outages.

Power outages are nothing new for many Germiston residents.

However, this doesn’t mean the community has to sit by and accept the consistent outages.

The LamDel Residents Association (RA), which was established in 2016 and encompasses Denlee, Delville, Hazeldene, Hazel Park, Klippoortjie North, Lambton, Parkhill Gardens, Webber and the Germiston Lake, covering two wards and two CPFs, believes something needs to be done.

“There are constant power outages within our suburbs that are not a result of load-shedding, but rather a direct result of infrastructure that is failing and has not been looked after,” said Lornette Joseph, chairperson of LamDel RA.

“This equipment is being ‘fixed’ in a haphazard manner, causing more infrastructure issues and power outages that can last 12 hours or more.

“We are tired of the lies we are told by the metro and we now demand action.”

To this end, LamDel has called for a public meeting which will take place on Saturday at Afrikaanse Hoërskool Germiston, in Webber Road, Lambton, from 10am, not just for residents who fall within LamDel, but also for Elsburg, Estera, Lambton Gardens, Mimosa Park and Wadeville residents.

Ward 39 Clr Alta de Beer will attend the meeting and an invitation has been extended to Ward 35 Clr Oupa Tshabalala and Clr Tiisetso Nketle (MMC for Water and Sanitation).

In addition to the meeting, the organisation has also drawn up a petition which has been signed by more than 100 residents.

The petition has been handed over to the metro.

“The problem is widespread and I can only hope that we will be taken seriously,” said Joseph.
