The Germiston SAPS Task Team received an anonymous tip-off recently, citing the alleged possession of an unlicensed firearm by a man driving around the city in a Corsa bakkie.
The officers were deployed to Exodus Street where the alleged suspected was reported to have been seen.
“Upon arrival, the officers spotted the bakkie, driven by a man around the age of 45, fitting the description detailed in the tip-off,” said Const Maxwell Mabunda, communications officer for the Germiston police.

“The officers searched the driver and found him in possession of a black pistol containing 12 rounds of live ammunition in the magazine.”
The suspect was arrested on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm, as he failed to produce a gun license when requested to do so by the police.
“He was detained in Germiston SAPS custody, and after being profiled it was found that he was a wanted suspect in a murder case opened in 2017 in KwaZulu-Natal,” said Mabunda.

“Officers from the KZN police collected the perpetrator at our station on February 23, to face the murder charges he was wanted for in KZN.
“Thank you to the Germiston community for constantly working with the police to ensure that criminals are arrested and working towards having a safer community for all,” he said.
