Parents rush to pick up children following unconfirmed rumours of schools being under threat

Concerned parents are fetching their children following unconfirmed reports, shared on social media, that schools are under threat.

Parents of children attending Klopper Park Primary School rushed to pick up their children from school following unconfirmed reports of schools being under threat.

The reports are allegedly being spread on several social media platforms.

The rumours come after an outbreak of violent protests and looting in several parts of Gauteng.

Capt Andre de Jager, spokesperson for the Bedfordview SAPS, said no reports of violence or looting have been reported in Klopper Park.

Const Maxwell Mabunda, the communications officer for the Germiston police, confirmed that the rumours of schools and learners being targeted are not true after officers from the station visited several schools in their precinct.

Const Daphney Phooko, the communications officer for the Elsburg police, said, “The information is false and no threats have been made.

“We can confirm that learners from Buhle Park and Rondebult primary and high schools have been released from school as a result of the rumours.”

Const Sivenkosi Mtwa, spokesperson for the Katlehong police, also confirmed the rumours of schools having been set alight are false, after officers from the station visited several schools in the Katlehong area.
