It was another busy lockdown weekend for the Katlehong police.
Officers from the Katlehong police’s Crime Prevention Unit, detectives from the Katlehong Police Station, members of the EMPD and members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) took to the streets of Katlehong in several weekend operations.

The operations were held throughout the precinct between April 17 and 19, the fourth weekend of lockdown, and led to the arrest of 39 suspects.
This is according to the latest arrest statistics released by the Katlehong Police Station.
A number of suspects were arrested for contravening the Disaster Management Act (Covid-19 Act).
“Their infringements included operating a tuckshop without a valid permit, an unlawful gathering of people, walking on the street aimlessly and operating a tavern during lockdown,” explained Capt Mega Ndobe, communications officer for the Katlehong police.

Other suspects were charged with various offences.
Charges included domestic violence, shoplifting, theft, robbery, possession of suspected stolen property and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
All of the arrested suspects were held at the Katlehong Police Station pending their appearance in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
Katlehong SAPS acting station commander Col Phakama Gcaza thanked everyone who contributed to the arrests.
However, she is concerned by the number of people disobeying the rules and regulations of the lockdown.
“It is not our aim to arrest residents, but we want to see the community safe from Covid-19,” she said.
