Primrose crèche receives helping hand from Edenvale Lioness Club

"The owner of the crèche can also store goods in the container, safe from criminals."

Edenvale Lioness Club, in partnership with The Lion’s Club of Vienna and Michael James Auctioneers Company, recently gave a helping hand to a Primrose crèche.

The service organisations and businesses bought and delivered a container which will allow children at the crèche a safe place to play.

The container was delivered on March 26, the day before the nationwide lockdown began.

President of the Lioness Club, Margaret Van Wyk, said the crèche cares for children under the age of three in a Primrose informal settlement.

She said the container has two windows, a proper floor, insulation and is raised on concrete blocks to reduce flooding.

“The owner of the crèche can also store goods in the container, safe from criminals,” she said.

Margaret thanked the club’s partners and shoppers at Dowerglen SPAR for their ongoing support.

“We could not collect food outside SPAR during March, but we had enough money from the cash donations we received and the sale of Christmas cakes to buy and distribute our usual 26 food parcels,” she said.

Margaret appealed to the community to support its ongoing baby clothes collection drive.

The clothes are donated to mothers in need of support at Edenvale Hospital and Tree of Hope.

“We also collect clothes and household goods for Bethany Home for abused women and their children,” she said.
