Attacks on courier vehicles – police seek help
On February 11 police in Vosloorus arrested two men believed to be connected to the recent spate of courier vehicle robberies around Kathorus.
The police believe the two men could be part of a larger syndicate that has been attacking and robbing these vehicles for several months.
The two suspects have been linked to the crimes because of their involvement in similar crimes in the past.
According to Const Sivenkosi Mutwa, the spokesperson of the Katlehong SAPS, while detectives are still probing the two suspects in custody, the police are appealing to the public to help them track criminals who are known to be linked to such criminal activities in their townships.
“If you know or have seen something relating to delivery vehicle crimes, please let us know as it might lead to the arrest and conviction of dangerous criminals,” pleaded Mtwa.
Mtwa said during the robberies, resisting drivers and their crews are often subjected to acts of serious violence and sometimes death.
Mtwa said valuable cargo is stolen almost daily from courier vehicles in the townships, and police are working on eradicating this lawlessness.
He described the situation as dire and said the attacks have been growing steadily over the past few months.
“We are now appealing to members of the public to come forward and help us arrest these criminals so we can bring them to book,” explained Mtwa.
