High-density operation yields successful arrests in Katlehong

The arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Thembisa and Palm Ridge magistrate's courts on March 23.

Police arrested over 21 suspects for various crimes during the joint high-density operations conducted in Ivory Park and Katlehong on March 20 and 21.

The joint operations involved EMPD, Gauteng traffic police and JMPD. The operation focused on liquor compliance and enforcement, drug enforcement, Disaster Management Act under level one lockdown enforcement, saturation and high visibility.

Arrests in Katlehong

According to Katlehong SAPS spokesperson Capt Mega Ndobe, four suspects were arrested for selling liquor without a valid licence, and at least seven suspects were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Police issued J534 fines valued at R6 000.

Arrests in Ivory Park

Two suspects were arrested for being in possession of drugs, four suspects were arrested for dealing in dagga and four suspects were arrested for the suspicion of illegal immigration.

Ndobe said four shebeens were closed due to non-compliance and alcohol was confiscated. Nine traffic fines, all valued at R7 750, were issued to motorists, he added.

“The operation saw the communities surprised to see law-enforcement agencies all over Katlehong flashing blue lights,” said Ndobe.

The Ekurhuleni district commanders, Maj-Gen Vincent Leshabane and Maj-Gen Anna Mateisi, were highly impressed by the joined operation; however, they expected the seizure of illegal firearms.

The arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Thembisa and Palm Ridge magistrate’s courts on March 23.
