Joy Ministries, Fish and Bread Ministries, Be a Light Foundation, Central Bikers Church, Flying by Faith, New Life Church and The Worship Centre were part of the feeding project.

Adults and children arrived in numbers to receive their Saturday meal.

Before handing over plates filled with delicious treats, Pastor Hermanus Nel, from Fish and Bread Ministries shared a message and a prayer.

He said through the soup kitchen they can spread the gospel while providing relief to destitute individuals and families.

Community stakeholders and churches come together to host a soup kitchen in Elsburg.

“We had a Thursday soup kitchen which was cancelled due to low attendance. We now host the soup kitchen every Saturday, servicing 100-plus people on a good day,” said Nel.

The soup kitchen’s offering has been interrupted by Covid-19 in recent years.

“The churches call on community stakeholders including councillors, welfare institutions, local businesses and individuals to aid the soup kitchen project.

“We also need a shelter to operate from where we will have a manager looking after it. We hope to then implement afternoon, children and spiritual welfare programmes,” he said.

Nel said the project aims to deliver food parcels to needy households.

He reminded residents to donate secondhand clothing for distribution to those in need.

“Elsburg and surrounding areas, have a drug problem. We are doing our best to better our communities,” said Nel.

Nel announced that the participating churches are planning a Christmas event for November 19.
