Palm Ridge’s young athlete finishes fifth in Cross Country League

Palm Ridge’s Tokollo Mokakabe recently put his best foot forward during the fourth league of the 2023 Cross Country season, finishing in fifth place at a time of 04:16.

Central Gauteng Athletics recently hosted the fourth league of the 2023 Cross Country season at Maryvale Park, Daveyton, in collaboration with East Athletics Club.

It was a fairly warm day with over 1 000 athletes from the city taking part in the event. The first race of the day was the beginners’ boys and girls U8.

They ran 1km, which Junior Mwa of Thembisa, who has maintained the first position in all three leagues this season, won. Palm Ridge’s Tokollo Mokakabe also put his best foot forward and finished in fifth place.

With only two leagues remaining for the 2023 Cross Country season, Nongcebo Siziba of Central Gauteng Athletics said some of the athletes will be shifting the focus to the 2023 CGA Championships taking place on August 19.

“Athletes will be fighting for the top four spots to be considered in the provincial team to National Championships, which will be held on September 16.

“Athletes are reminded they have to run at least three out of six leagues, plus the CGA Championships to be considered for selection to represent the province,” she said.
