Collapsed sewer line in Palm Ridge causes concern
Ward 94 Clr Samantha Nair revealed that children in the area swim in the dirty water caused by a collapsed sewer line.
A collapsed sewer line in Palm Ridge Ext 4 sparked concern with Ward 94 Clr Samantha Nair, who recently visited the site.
She said the sewer on the corner of K146 and the Greenfields turn-off has been a problem for years and that the situation has only deteriorated.
“A contractor was busy on the site. The contractor worked on it but could not resolve the issue. They left the area in this state. It has become a danger to children who live in the area, and they even swim in this dirty water,” she explained.
After the contractor dug up the area, she said residents on Clematis Street and other nearby streets have serious issues with sewer overflow.
Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said the city had instructed the sewer maintenance contractor to replace the collapsed sewer line in Palm Ridge Ext 4.
“The contractor successfully replaced the collapsed sewer line that caused blockages on the submain lines connected to the main sewer line. It is not correct or true that the contractor failed to replace the collapsed sewer line. The area is a natural wetland and the city has started to assist with emptying the water,” he said.
