Vosloorus rape perpetrator sentenced to 22 years imprison

A meticulous investigation by Sergeant Mdladlamba serve justice to a 12-year-old rape victim who was only eight years at the time of the rape incident.

Vosloorus Ext 20 resident Thabo Alfred Mkebisi (24) was sentenced to 22 years of direct imprisonment for the rape of a then-eight-year-old girl.

Mkebisi was 20 years old when was arrested four years ago for raping an eight-year-old minor, who is now 12 years old.

According to Katlehong South media liaison officer Constable Sivenkosi Mtwa, on September 29, 2018, the victim was invited to a party by her friend who was also a minor, as the pair attended the same school. They had fun as they partied at the friend’s house until it was late.

Mtwa said the mother of her friend told her not to go home because it was already late. She agreed and she and her friend slept in the kitchen. The same night, while they were sleeping, Mkebisi her friend’s brother, joined them.

“The next morning the victim found Mkebisi had raped her. He told her not to tell anyone what had happened.

“The victim then left her friend’s place limping with severe pain in her private parts. On arrival at home she could not bear the pain and decided to tell her grandfather, who arranged medical attention for her,” said Mtwa.

It was confirmed that she was raped and a case was opened at Katlehong SAPS.

“The case docket for rape was allocated to Sergeant Ntombi Mdladlamba of the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit at Katlehong. She did a meticulous investigation by collecting all the evidence, including DNA results that linked Mkebisi as a suspect and that resulted in his conviction.”

Mkebisi was convicted on August 5, 2022, at Palm Ridge Regional Court. He is currently serving his 22 years sentence at Boksburg Correctional Services.

“In terms of section 50 (2) act 32 of 2007 his name, Thabo Alfred Mkebisi, was referred to the national register for sex offenders and in terms of section 103 (1) act 60 of 2000 firearms control act, the accused is automatically declared unfit to possess a firearm,” Mtwa concluded.

Katlehong South SAPS station commander Brigadier Albertina Vesi has applauded the exceptional work done by Sergeant Mdladlamba.

“As we celebrate Women’s Month we must always shine and take a stand against GBV by sending a strong message to GBV perpetrators,” said Vesi.
