Youngster proud to lead Primrose CPF patroller programme

CPF's is more than just a community organisation. It’s a brotherhood, a sisterhood, and a safe, inclusive space where no one stands above or below anyone else.

At just 21 years old, Tatiana Robinson leads the Primrose CPF Next Gen Patroller programme.

Her experience with crime led her to the CPF to keep her community safe.

“At just seven months old, my life was altered when my father was shot during a business robbery.

This harrowing event propelled my family into crime prevention.

“After his recovery, my father established a crime prevention business named Spidertech and, in 2013, joined the CPF to safeguard his family and the community. Following his lead, my mother also became an active member,” share Tatiana.

This act by her parents started her long journey with the CPF. At nine years old, Tatiana was involved in CPF activities, helping at functions, participating in soup drives and doing community clean-ups.

Although too young to patrol, these experiences instilled in her a commitment to community service. On turning 18, Tatiana became a patroller.

She said, “The CPF’s role is more than just a community organisation. It’s a brotherhood, a sisterhood and a safe, inclusive space where no one stands above or below anyone else. We all take an active role as a community to protect our community and families,” said Tatiana.

The Next Gen programme is important because the youth must get involved in the CPF.

“Young people getting involved is crucial because it will bridge the generation gap, encourage youth participation, foster understanding and co-operation between different age groups and lead to a more cohesive society.

“Young people can bring innovative ideas and technological skills that could modernise and improve community safety initiatives,” explained Tatiana.

She said the current team is getting older and needs support, “The current team has been actively serving in the CPF for years, and it’s for the younger generation to continue where they are so we can also learn from them,” said Tatiana.

She said there are concerns for the young people joining. “People new to the community and unaware of CPF activities are hesitant to join because of safety concerns. To address this, we use the CPF’s dual approach,” said Tatiana.

The dual approach is the Patroller Programme for those willing to patrol and monitor the community and the Community Service Programme for individuals who prefer to contribute by organising functions, doing soup drives, participating in clean-ups and helping with municipal activities like fixing potholes and removing illegal signs.

Through her CPF involvement, Tatiana has developed vital skills, including effective communication, crisis management, information dissemination, and trauma counselling.

“The CPF isn’t solely about patrolling but about making a real impact and being part of a movement that strengthens communities,” said Tatiana.

She said through the Next Gen programme, she envisions young people becoming integral to shaping the future of community policing. She foresees youth-led initiatives focusing on education and social awareness, using technology to improve communication, crime prevention and community engagement.

She encouraged interested young people to join the CPF.

“You don’t need the experience to start; you just need the willingness to learn and contribute.

“The skills you gain and the connections you build will benefit you for a lifetime. It’s our turn. The change starts with you,” she said.

Tatiana’s story is a reminder of the positive influence dedicated individuals can have. By leading the Next Gen programme, she inspires others to contribute to a safer and more connected society.
