WATCH: Two women charged with public violence denied bail pending address verification

Bail applications delayed as authorities verify addresses of women accused of participating in August 12 protests.

Two women accused of public violence and damaging infrastructure appeared in Germiston Magistrate’s Court for their second hearing following demonstrations on August 12.

Malwande Tukula and Mandisa Mboxwana face charges linked to court-ordered evictions in the area.

Their defence, led by Advocate Tshepo Kapa, filed bail applications during the hearing. However, the applications were delayed after the state raised concerns over unverified addresses provided by the accused.

The prosecution argued that neither women had a permanent address following the evictions in Pharoe Park, and both should remain in custody until verification is complete.

Magistrate Mrs Baloyi postponed the matter to August 27 but indicated a bail hearing judgment could be made on August.21, pending confirmation of the addresses.

The accused remain in custody.
