Germiston court delays trial of 76-year-old accused of rape, trafficking
The case involves a 13-year-old victim and is set to resume on October 8, with police urging anyone with information to come forward.
A 76-year-old man, accused of multiple charges including rape, human trafficking and sexual exploitation, made a third appearance in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court last Wednesday.
However, the court again postponed the case because no Polish translator was available for the accused, a Lambton resident of Polish descent.
The court heard a translator still had not been secured, causing further delays, despite earlier requests.
A formal request has now been made for seven days to source and confirm the availability of a qualified Polish interpreter, and the man will reappear in court on October 8.

He was arrested in September after allegations linked him to serious crimes involving sexual exploitation and trafficking.
According to investigating officer Sergeant Maringa, the victim’s aunt opened the case. The victim is 13 years old.
This matter is not the first case against the suspect; a similar case was opened and later withdrawn.
The Germiston City News spoke to the suspect’s attorney, Teboho Chauke, who said he was not worried about the suspect’s previous case.
“That case has no merit, as it was withdrawn,” said Chauke.

This latest postponement has drawn concern, with community members calling for the matter to be fast-tracked to ensure justice for the victim.
The accused remains in custody, and the case will resume once a translator is available.
The police request anyone with information to contact Maringa on 083 582 5150.
