Local association takes the energy fight to the city
“We are tired of the energy chaos, mismanagement and constant power outages in the area."
The Lamdel Resident Association will be picketing outside the City of Ekurhuleni offices parking area on August 11.
This action is prompted by constant power outages.
“We are tired of the energy chaos, mismanagement and constant power outages in the area. It’s time to take a stand and make our voices heard. We are demanding real change and not promises.
We need a better future for our community,” said Lamdel Resident’s Association chairperson Jakkie Janse van Vuuren.

She said this is a crucial moment for the community to unite and present a memorandum of grievance to the CoE council members.
She highlighted the numerous issues they are faced with due to the lack of proper energy management from the Germiston depot and the ineptness of the council to resolve the power and supply issues and to ensure parts, materials, vehicles and resources are available.
She said their message is clear the community has had enough.
“The constant power outages have disrupted our lives. It has financially and emotionally ruined family lives, harmed local businesses, and hindered the economic growth in the community. It’s time for the council to take meaningful action and prioritise our community’s well-being,” said Janse van Vuuren.

She said this picket is for the whole community and she invites people to come in numbers. “We are all affected by this electricity chaos and we need to stand together and show the city that we demand action.
We need strength in numbers. By coming out in full force we will demonstrate to the council the magnitude of our concerns.
“Together, we can show that this is not just a problem for a few individuals, but a collective issue that affects every one of us,” said Janse van Vuuren.
Lamdel has sent numerous emails to the mayor, city manager, MMC of energy and officials pleading for answers and solutions to the power issues.
