The motorists gave various excuses for their speed, including being late for work, but officers rejected these explanations as unacceptable under the National Road Traffic Act 93 of 1996.

All seven drivers were arrested on the spot and detained at Brakpan and Bedfordview police stations. They face charges of reckless and negligent driving and are expected to appear in their respective magistrate’s courts soon.
