Protesters shut down King Mohlaka Drive
King Mohlaka Drive between Palm Ridge and Sky City was temporarily closed after protesters barricaded the roadway with stones, prompting a response from law enforcement agencies.
The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) confirmed that protesters had gathered in the area on June 14, resulting in the closure of the affected stretch of road.
EMPD officers, together with members of the police’s Public Order Policing Unit, were deployed to monitor the situation and maintain public order.

The closure caused disruptions for motorists travelling through the area, with road users advised to make use of alternative routes while law enforcement officials managed the incident.
It is not clear what the protest was about, however more information on this will be published as it becomes available.
The roadway was subsequently cleared and reopened after authorities brought the situation under control.
