Kasie women opt for prostitution

Poverty and unemployment is pushing many young township women into prostitution.

While we all know that this is the world’s oldest profession known and practised by women the world over, I doubt if at its early stage prostitution was practiced by young unmarried women as it is today.

But firstly, we need to discourage any woman from becoming a prostitute by offering her something to do with her hands and time. I find it shameful and embarrassing for me as a woman to drive through the old side roads and be met by semi-naked women selling their bodies to men.

Prostitution is not a new thing in South Africa, but what is worrying is the high numbers of young and middle-aged women who practise prostitution openly. It is of great concern to me that even the police around Kathorus are now joining the lustful queue to the bush brothels set up by prostitutes and their pimps along the roads.
