Food costs killing the poor

My heart goes out to the poor, the elderly and unemployed as the cost of living soared even higher with the recent one per cent increase in VAT on basic commodities such as food.

There are many unemployed elderly people who live on their own. For many of them, mere survival is a continuous struggle. The majority cannot even afford the very basic necessities that many families take for granted.

I am appealing to communities to join hands and start “charity-clubs” in their areas where they could donate unwanted goods and food parcels. These can then be distributed to needy families and help them to at least feed themselves.

Unless we learn to stand up and help each other during difficult times, we will not be able to become a strong nation. Our strength is in our numbers, let’s use it by embracing each other and caring.
