Anne Barford, Barvallen, writes:
To date (July 10) the construction of Barbara Road has caused the residents of Barvallen and Rustivia nothing but frustration.
We have heard false promises regarding the progress of the repair and maintenance of Barbara Road and surrounding roads.
Armada Road has become a danger zone. Drivers of taxis, trucks and passenger vehicles using this road have had no respect for residents living on this road, swearing and hooting at residents as we try to exit or enter our driveways.
Some residents have almost been involved in accidents and others have had accidents as a result of taxis overtaking vehicles trying to get into their driveways.
Trucks have damaged the road, causing huge potholes, and have disrespected the temporary road signs that have been erected, as well as having no regard for oncoming traffic or turning corners.
Crime has increased in the suburb since the start of the roadworks on May 7.
Water and electricity outages have caused damage to appliances, as well as geysers, causing unforeseen expenses with repairs, or frustration with having to claim from insurance.
The construction company has had no accountability for damages caused and burst water pipes, not only once, but about four times.
Residents have not been able to access their private homes in the evenings.
Many have had to inconvenience friends and family for overnight accommodation as they have not been able to reside in their houses as a result of the construction leaving their driveways a danger zone.
Domestic animals have been killed because of the speeding trucks and taxis.
Our once quiet neighbourhood has had the noise of trucks speeding up and down the road from 4.30am to 10.30pm.
