Starting the season off right

Simmer's pre-season training.

Germiston Simmer Rugby Club started the 2014 season with training on January 7.

Head coach Maree Bester is looking to build on his October/November 2013 pre-season training, that included a gym programme, practise sessions and a pre-season friendly against Wits University, with fitness and ball handling.

“It is imperative that a good fitness level is achieved, as a fit team provides so much more in terms of on-field strategy,” said Bester.

Furthermore, the club is preparing for the Lions Seven’s tournament, that will be held at the Alberton Rugby Club on February 8 and 9.

Bester is using all his experience gained in an illustrious coaching career in various provinces and with the Springbok Seven’s to prepare a team that will be able to compete with the best in the Golden Lions Rugby Union League.

A word of welcome is extended to all new players; the club’s management also welcomes Hennie de Villiers, Pieter Botha and Garth Crombie to the coaching team.

The Germiston Simmer Rugby Club’s annual general meeting will be held on January 21, at the club.

All officials and players are requested to attend this meeting.

Simmer has evolved in the last few years, to a club where the old Simmer spirit is prevalent at all occasions.

This has been evident in the semi-final placing of the first team, and the league win of the u-19 team in the 2013 Senior Grand Challenge season.

Chairman Rene Audier is proud of the fact that all the 2013 boxes have been ticked and is confident that Simmer are well on their way to a first team league victory in the 2014 season.

He invites all those interested in joining the club to attend Monday fitness sessions, as well as Tuesday and Thursday practise sessions, from 6.30pm to 8pm.
