A polished year for Diamond Athletics Club
John Diamond, coach at Diamond Athletics Club, was thrilled to speak to the GCN about his club’s success at the Sub-Youth Inter-Provincial Championships and anticipates a thrilling year for his club in 2019.
Athletes from Diamond Athletics Club showed much grit when they journeyed to Potchefstroom, in the North West province, for the Sub-Youth Inter-Provincial Championships recently.
Seven athletes took to the track and field where four reached noteworthy positions in their respective sporting codes.
Omphile Rathebe took home a gold medal in the boys’ u-13 100m sprint and silver in the 200m.
In the boys’ u-13 long jump, Steven Sabino landed in second place.
Kabelo Mampane came in fourth in the boys’ u-15 100m hurdles.
Ndumiso Simelane ran in the boys’ u-15 100m sprint where he missed an opportunity to grab the bronze medal by a few seconds.
“We have had a good year,” said John Diamond, a coach at Diamond Athletics Club.
“Looking at the quality of athletes we have, we anticipate to have an even greater year in 2019. Rathebe and Sabino are only 12 years old, but records might be broken in future.”
