“More than 200 participants from across Gauteng competed in the trials,” said Susan Scott, on behalf of the club.
“Our students took part in traditional kata and traditional kumite, which were called hard forms at the trials, musical and traditional weapons, which were called creative forms at the trials, points and continuous fighting and for the first time low-kick fighting.”
Scott further explained that the students excelled at the event, bringing home 48 medals between them.
“Our students did very well,” said Scott.
“Everyone received at least one medal and really enjoyed themselves, which is the important thing.”
The club’s medal tally was broken down into 19 gold medals, 12 silver medals and 17 bronze medals.

Kanchu Alex Tebbutt was thrilled with his students’ results.
“It was an excellent tournament,” said Tebbutt.
“It was our first tournament of the year and my students were fit and ready.
“After such a positive result what else can we do but look forward to the next event?”
Next on the club’s calendar will be the black belt grading, which will take place in March.
After this, the students will begin their preparation for the FCMA National Championships, which will be held in June or July (the date is still to be confirmed).
