Acting on information given to them by an informer, officers from the Primrose Police Station visited the Marathon informal settlement recently.
“The informer told police that a suspect would allegedly often use his firearm to threaten people within the informal settlement,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

Officers visited the address given by the informant.
“They found a man and a woman, aged 42 and 40 years old respectively, asleep in the shack,” said Maome.
“Police introduced themselves and asked to search the shack.”
During the search, officers found a red container, which contained a silver firearm, one magazine and three rounds of live ammunition.
“Police requested the licence for the firearm, but neither the man nor the woman were able to provide one,” said Maome.
“The couple were arrested on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition.”
