Elsburg Golden Oldies ready for 2025 season

Over the past year, the Bald Eagles have expanded their roster and made significant strides in the Golden Oldies rugby community.

The Elsburg Bald Eagles Golden Oldie Rugby Team proudly celebrated its first anniversary on January 27.

Originating from a shared passion among seasoned rugby enthusiasts, the team began with just six founding members, affectionately termed the ‘First Six.’

Over the past year, the Bald Eagles have expanded their roster and made significant strides in the Golden Oldies rugby community.

Reflecting on their inaugural year, the team expressed immense pride in their accomplishments throughout 2024.

Participating in numerous Oldies Festivals, they even hosted a successful festival in April 2024 at the Elsburg Rugby Club.

These endeavours have laid a solid foundation for the future growth of the club.

Looking ahead, the Bald Eagles are gearing up for an exciting 2025 season.

Their season kicked off on February 1 with the Western Lions Festival in Randfontein.

Building on the success of their previous event, they are set to host their festival again on April 5 at the Elsburg Rugby Club.

The team extends an invitation to the community to join in the festivities and support local rugby talent.

A significant goal for the Bald Eagles this year is to represent Elsburg at the SANGORA Nationals in September, scheduled to be held in Nelspruit.

This prestigious event gathers the finest Golden Oldies teams from across the nation, offering a platform for spirited competition and showcasing the enduring passion for rugby among veteran players.

While the matches remain competitive and physically demanding, the true essence of Golden Oldies rugby lies in the camaraderie and sportsmanship shared among teams.

The unwavering support from family and friends adds immense value to the experience, making every effort worthwhile.

For those who feel the call of the rugby field and wish to rekindle their passion for the sport, the Bald Eagles are welcoming new members.

Training sessions are held every Sunday at 11am at the Elsburg Rugby Club.
