Modderfontein’s Nicole LUV takes top music award
Through honesty in her hip-hop music artistry, she bagged the Stylin’ Dredz Creative Conqueror 2025 title.
With her fresh sound, bold perspective, and unwavering creative vision, Modderfontein resident Nicole LUV represents the next wave of South African music talent.
Her artistry earned her the coveted Stylin’ Dredz Creative Conqueror 2025 title, chosen from hundreds of entries across the country, and she was crowned in October.
Nicole LUV said she was shocked upon winning the title, as she had just entered the competition wanting to share her talent and have fun.

“Hearing that I’d won was a crazy moment. I just sat there thinking, wow, me? It was humbling, but it also reminded me that when you stay true to yourself, people notice.”
The title came with R50 000 towards her music career and a debut performance spot at the 2025 Back to the City Festival, South Africa’s largest hip-hop and urban culture event.

Born Nicole Pilusa, the artist said the name LUV comes from India Love, an American model. “I used to watch her back in the Tumblr days, and I really admired her confidence and energy. She owned who she was completely.
When I started rapping, I added LUV to my name as a reminder to always move with that same self-love and confidence, no matter what’s going on around me.”

Nicole LUV said her musical journey started with freestyling. She used to rap for fun, playing around with words and beats until people started noticing.
“That’s when I realised it was more than just something I liked, it was a part of me. The way people connected to what I was saying made me see that this could be bigger than just a hobby.”
The musician said her sound is real and emotional but also strong. She mixes rap with a bit of soul and honesty.
She doesn’t try to sound perfect but wants people to feel what she’s saying. Every verse comes from a real place, whether it’s pain, love, or confidence.
Nicole LUV’s inspiration for writing music comes from life. “Everything I go through, the ups, the downs, the people I meet, all of it finds a way into my music. I write about what I feel and what I see. Sometimes it’s deep, sometimes it’s playful, but it’s always real.”
In her music, she talks a lot about strength, self-worth, and growth. Nicole wants people to know it’s okay to be vulnerable but still powerful.
Locally, Nicole LUV’s musical influences include Nasty C, AKA, and Moozlie, whom she believes have played a big part in shaping the local culture and showing that it’s possible to succeed while staying true to your sound. Globally, her inspiration is Nicki Minaj for her confidence, wordplay, and story.

Nicole LUV said she wants to show that you can be real, emotional, and still strong in hip hop.
“Especially as a woman, I want to inspire others to own their voice and not be afraid to take space. I’m just hoping my journey encourages someone else to believe in theirs too.”
Right now, she is focusing on dropping more singles and has much more to offer as she takes things step by step.
