The South African Police Services are recruiting reservists from the community to assist police in their fight against crime.
Members of the community that are energetic, intelligent, physically and mentally fit and that are dedicated to serving their country on a voluntary basis as reservists are invited to apply.
It is important to note that reservists’ services will be voluntary without any remuneration and that their positions as reservists do not guarantee an appointment as permanent members of the SAPS.
Candidate reservists may under no circumstances commence duty before they have successfully completed the training determined by the Acting National Commissioner and before PERSAL numbers had been allocated to them.
Heidelberg Police Station has 32 reservist posts and Ratanda Police Station has 16 posts available. The SAPS require that reservists perform a minimum of 16 hours voluntary duty per month.
The generic minimum requirements for applicants are as follows: applicants must display competency in the post-specific functions of the post, must be South African citizens by birth, must be at least 20 years old and not older than 49 years, must complete a health questionnaire determined by the National Commissioner at own cost that is confirmed by a registered medical practitioner, must be medically, mentally and physically fit to perform duties, must be of good and sound character, fit the psychometric profile, allow his or her fingerprints and DNA samples to be taken, complete an assessment questionnaire, will be vetted or screened, undergo training, prepare to take oath of office, understand that his or her services may be terminated at the age of 60, does not have a criminal record or any criminal or departmental cases pending and does not have any tattoo marks of which will be visible if the person wears a uniform.
Applicants who are employed will receive preference and proof of residential address will be required.
Applicants must be in possession of at least a senior certificate (Grade 12) or have successfully completed a SAQA accredited NQF level 4 qualification. They must speak, read and write at least two official languages of which one must be English.
The core function of a reservist is to perform general policing duties in sectors at station level. Reservists must prevent, combat and investigate crime and maintain public order. They will be expected to protect and secure the inhabitants of the country and their property and to uphold and enforce the law.
Application forms can be obtained from your nearest local police station and the applications must be hand delivered to your nearest police station on or before November 25.
Correspondence will only be conducted with successful candidates who will then be invited to attend the reservist training program. The training is a once-off event and candidates will have to avail themselves to attend the training sessions after hours and on weekends. Training will consist of orientation, distance learning, contact sessions, formative and summative assessment.
Appointment as reservist will only be effected on the successful completion of the prescribed training.
