Alleged hi-jacker hangs himself in Heidelberg police cell

Ended his life after hi speed chase.

A 30-year-old suspect hanged himself in the cells of Heidelberg Police Station this afternoon at around 12:15. The suspect was apprehended after he and an accomplice allegedly hijacked a truck in Balfour earlier this morning.

According to Sergeant Daisy Sbongile Ndlela (SAPS Communications Officer: Ekurhuleni Cluster) the driver of the truck and his passenger were locked in the back of the truck in the refrigeration compartment. The two victims managed to open the door from the inside and jumped out while the suspects were driving the vehicle on the Vaaldam Road.

Members of Gauteng Emergency Services in an ambulance saw everything and helped the two victims. They then chased after the truck in the ambulance. One of the suspects managed to run away, but the 30-year-old were arrested. Police also found an unlicensed fire arm in his possession.
