New Management of Nigel Diesel promises great growth and service excellence

Established in 1966 by Tony van Rooyen, the automotive engineering business Nigel Diesel, specialising in medium to large diesel engines, soon became one of the first turbo and diesel fuel injection concerns on the East Rand. Situated in Kingsway Avenue it has become part of the furniture in Nigel. With years of trusted service this business is now under new management with fresh ideas and bigger goals.
The building was expanded in 1968 to cope with further growth and a designated fuel injection and pump room was introduced. Throughout the following decades, Nigel Diesel continued to service its large and loyal customer base throughout Gauteng, Mpumalanga and beyond.
As the years passed Nigel Diesel trained many artisans and employed many long standing, highly skilled staff members. The late Nick Louw and now retired Abraham Phadime both exceeded 50 years of service. Phadime was Nigel Diesel’s first and longest serving employee.
Currently two artisans, Kat Steyn and Wally Botha have over 30 years’ service with unmeasurable experience. All the existing staff have a track record working at Nigel Diesel namely, Melissa McCallaghan (admin clerk) who is the friendly and always helpful Admin Assistant, Simon Tsotetsi (Workshop assistant) and Richard Mazibuko (Workshop assistant) who assist both Kat Steyn and Wally Botha with the everyday tasks that need to be carried out, remain loyal, highly valued employees. Nigel Diesel has also welcomed Warren van Zeil (qualified diesel mechanic) to the family in the position of workshop manager who is there to assist and advise clients on the best options.
After almost 53 years, Van Rooyen decided to retire, passing ownership to Charlene Hanekom. She has a strong background in business management and sales and interestingly, her husband Koos Hanekom completed his apprenticeship at Nigel Diesel under Van Rooyens’s supervision in 1996. Nigel Diesel has under new management, further grown its potential client base locally and across borders into the industrial and mining sector focusing on current high demand and quality workmanship.
Introducing advanced equipment and friendly staff, they are a fully equipped ERA and RMI member, gaining a vast amount of experience in the specialised field of engine remanufacturing, constantly focusing on their reputation for reliability, quality and integrity since their humble beginnings. The company is Level Four B-BBEE compliant.
