NCOP elects new committee
Several people attended Nigel Community on Patrol’s (NCOP) annual general meeting (AGM) which took place at Laerskool Hannes Visagie on November 19.
An executive committee was elected and residents who have not yet joined forces with the re-established neighbourhood watch, were encouraged to do so.
For over four years Nigel CPF had faced numerous challenges, the most important of which is the fact that it had been without an executive board as required by the provisions of the Police Act of 1995. The act specifically requires that members be duly vetted and registered and that a database be kept, but whereas CPF patrollers contributed immensely towards the safety of the community, its structure totally collapsed over time. As a result, CPF members resigned and made a joint decision to join the NCOP who still has a working agreement with SAPS Nigel.
During the meeting, the following people were elected as committee members: Martin Harris (chairperson), Pieter Nel (vice-chairperson), Sonja Deyzel (secretary), Lien Benadie (treasurer), Delia Nel (public relations officer), Shaun Bamford (head of patrols) and Johan Ferreira (deputy head of patrols).

Residents are reminded that the purpose of NCOP is to build a partnership between the police and community and in case of any crime related emergencies, residents are still advised to phone SAPS Nigel on 011 812 6503 or any of the police sector numbers, which are as follows:
Sector 1 (from The Angelo Mall to Eeufees Avenue) Sector manager – W/O Justin Sherwood (082 778 9040;
Sector 2.1 (from Scarborough/Eeufees to Laversburg) Sector manager – W/O J Janse van Rensburg (082 774 9827;
Sector 2.2 (Alrapark and MacKenzieville) Sector manager – W/O J Janse van Rensburg (082 774 9827)
