Top honours for Heidelberg horse riders

Four riders of Carlisle Stud and Equestrian Park received top honours for excelling in eventing during 2019. Eventing is a three phase equestrian sport made up of Dressage, Show Jumping and Cross Country.
During the Gauteng Eventers Amateur League awards ceremony that was held on November 30, Chané Smit (17) received the award as the 70cm junior winner with Tamara van Vuuren (16) who was announced as the 90cm junior winner.

Casey-Leigh Smit (11) was the 80cm pony rider winner with Adrienne MacDonald-Hutcheson (11) as the 90cm pony rider winner.
Tamara and Adrienne were also awarded for their achievements during the Gauteng Eventing Awards lunch that was held on November 2.

Tamara, who has been riding since the age of 12, won best horse and rider combination with two of her horses (70cm junior on her gelding Levi and 80cm junior on her mare Midgard Althea). Adrienne who has been riding since she was a toddler and her pony Waterford Flash won best pony and rider combination in the 90cm section.

“Horse riding is a very competitive and demanding sport which requires riders to spend many hours in training and have a good amount of compassion for their equine sports partners – a partnership based on good leadership and mutual trust as well as a good sense of humour. The girls spend endless hours in the saddle and are very deserving of these awards,” said Michell MacDonald-Hutcheson (instructor).
