A 15-year-old girl returned from school to her Ratanda home on January 30 to discover the body of her grandmother.
Ratanda SAPS were called to the scene in Mofokeng Street, Ratanda Ext 23.
The SAPS members found the 62-year-old woman in a pool of blood.
It is believed the woman initially took her four-year-old granddaughter to crèche in the morning and returned home to care for her five-month-old grandchild.
When the older granddaughter came home from school later that day, she discovered the kitchen door open.
Not suspecting anything, she entered the house. She called her grandmother, who did not respond.
She then noticed her grandmother on the floor in the bedroom. She also heard the baby crying in the room.
It is reported, the granddaughter said she saw blood in the bathroom and on her grandmother’s head.
She called for help, and a neighbour rushed to assist her, summoning the police and paramedics. Initial investigations revealed the grandma received a stab to the neck.
The paramedics declared her dead on the scene, and her body was taken to the Heidelberg Mortuary.
Ratanda SAPS are investigating cases of murder, robbery and possible sexual assault.
This murder follows a similar case in Ratanda, where the body of a 72-year-old woman was discovered in her Ext 3 home on January 6.
This woman was found half-naked, with a cut to the side of her neck.
There were no signs of forced entry into the premises.
In addition, on November 13, last year, the body of a 71-year-old woman was also discovered in her home in Ratanda.
She was lying on her bed with a stab wound to her neck.
