Ratanda tuck shop owner shot in armed robbery

A tuck shop owner from Obed Nkosi flats in Ratanda is in a critical condition after being shot. Family members say they now fear for their safety and are calling for intervention from local authorities.

Vusumuzi Nkosi, a 43-year-old tuck shop owner from Obed Nkosi flats in Ratanda, is in critical condition after being shot by criminals posing as customers on October 2.

According to his aunt, Seipati Pooe (52), the family is still in shock and living in fear following the incident.

“On the night of the incident, unknown suspects came in pretending to be customers. When he answered the door, they demanded cash. When he refused, they shot him. A neighbour who tried to assist Vusumuzi was also shot multiple times,” she said.

Another family member, Dimakatso Pooe (43), is concerned about their safety.

“We do not feel safe. These flats are not properly secured and remain exposed. What if they come back to finish what they started? We want the police to intervene.”

According to Sergeant Moss Maluleke from Ratanda SAPS, investigations are ongoing, and the police will release more information when it becomes available. He added that the police urge anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
