Heidelberg SAPS arrest 2 for bribery and possession of dagga on N3 Highway
Two men were arrested after Heidelberg police uncovered 80kg of dagga hidden under a taxi’s seats.
The Heidelberg SAPS arrested two men for possessing dagga and attempting to bribe officers on October 12.
The arrests followed a routine patrol by the Public Order Policing unit on the N3 near the weighbridge, where officers discovered a dagga cache with an estimated street value of R11 000.
According to reports, they noticed a Toyota Quantum speeding past them and gave chase. After stopping the vehicle, carrying 15 passengers, the driver granted permission for a search.
Officers found containers hidden under the seats containing about 80kg of dagga. When questioned, the driver contacted his brother, who admitted ownership of them.
The brother then allegedly tried to bribe the officers with R770, but the officers refused the offer, warning that bribery is a criminal offence.
They arrested both of them and confiscated the dagga as evidence.
The two men will soon appear in court.
