Pyne trial: Legal representation issues prolong trial start
Further delays in long-awaited trial
The case against Jaén-Lee Pyne (31), who faces charges of assault, intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and malicious damage to property, was once again delayed, following another postponement in proceedings.
The trial was set to start on October 16 at the Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court.
The latest delay is a continuing pattern that has persisted since the case was first placed on the court roll in January 2023.
To complicate matters, it was revealed that Pyne’s legal representative is not currently authorised to practice law, as her Fidelity Fund certificate expired in December 2024 and has not been renewed.
The announcement from Magistrate Michael Twala left the courtroom, filled with community members eager for a resolution, in disbelief as the case hit yet another setback.
The ongoing delays and changes in legal representation for Pyne have frustrated those awaiting the trial’s progress.
Currently, Pyne remains out on bail in connection with the assault related charges, but is in custody related to a separate matter.
The court has rescheduled the case for October 20, allowing time for Pyne’s legal counsel to address these issues.
