Heidelberg police open inquest after woman dies at home

An inquest was opened after a woman was found unresponsive at her home, prompting an investigation into the cause of her death.

An inquest docket was opened after a woman was found unresponsive at her home on Romyn Street on February 11.

According to information, the woman’s mother, who lives in a flat at the back of the same property, became concerned when she could not wake her daughter, so she went to the main house to check on her child and found her unresponsive in the bathroom.

Despatched community patrollers assessed the situation and immediately called the emergency medical services and the police.

Heidelberg SAPS officers secured the scene while waiting for paramedics. Ambulance personnel later confirmed that the woman had died, with no visible injuries on the body.

The Heidelberg Detective branch opened an inquest docket to determine the cause of the death following forensic examinations and a post-mortem.

The family has appealed for privacy during this time.
