Vice-chairperson of the club, Fanie Botes, said the celebration was organised to recognise Fenwick’s dedication and lasting impact on the club and the broader community.

“Jack has been contributing here for many years and thousands of children have been trained under his leadership. We decided to host this surprise birthday celebration to honour him because it is important to pay tribute to people and give them their flowers while they are still alive. We also placed a plaque with his name on the wall to honour his legacy at the club,” he said.

Several of Fenwick’s former students also shared messages of appreciation for the role he played in their lives.
Nadia Peinke said she will always be grateful for Fenwick’s guidance and support during her early years in tennis.
“I started playing tennis when I was 10 years old and he was my coach until I matriculated. It was a joyful experience. He taught us much more than just tennis; he taught us how to be strong players and never give up in life,” she said.

“Jack has been here for basically all of our lives and we have learned a lot from him. He taught us about tennis, sportsmanship and team spirit. He was also a brilliant player in his younger years. We are truly grateful and appreciate everything he has done for the community,” he said.
