Lesedi municipality honoured with 6 awards at Gauteng audit ceremony
Lesedi Local Municipality was among the top performers at the Gauteng Municipal Audit Awards, receiving six accolades that recognisze improvements in governance, accountability and financial management.
The Lesedi Local Municipality has been recognised for its commitment to good governance and sound financial management after receiving six awards at the Gauteng Municipal Audit Awards held in Johannesburg on June 5.
Hosted by the South African Local Government Association, the awards recognise municipalities that have demonstrated significant improvements in audit outcomes and compliance with the standards set by the Auditor-General of South Africa.
Lesedi was among the night’s standout performers, earning accolades in six key categories that highlight excellence in governance, accountability and financial administration.
The municipality received awards for effectively implementing action plans to address prior-year audit findings; improving record and document management; strengthening accountability and consequence management; submitting quality annual financial statements and annual performance reports; reducing unauthorised, irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure; and achieving an unqualified audit opinion with improvements.

Lesedi Local Municipality spokesperson Katleho Seaga said the recognition reflects the municipality’s ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and improve service delivery.
“These awards are a reflection of the hard work, dedication and commitment demonstrated by our councillors, management and employees.
“We are proud of this achievement, which confirms that our efforts to strengthen accountability, improve financial management and uphold good governance are yielding positive results,” he said.
“While we celebrate this milestone, we remain focused on continuous improvement and ensuring that residents receive quality and sustainable services. This recognition motivates us to work even harder towards becoming a municipality that is responsive, transparent and accountable to the communities we serve,” said Seaga.
