3 years later: Dylan Bothma’s family renews plea for information and justice
On the anniversary of Dylan’s death, his family honoured his memory while calling on anyone with information to help bring closure to a case that remains unresolved three years later.
The family of Dylan Bothma marked the anniversary of his death on June 25 with a heartfelt tribute and a renewed appeal for information, urging witnesses who may know what happened to finally come forward.
Dylan died after being found critically injured on a roadside in 2023.
Three years after losing their son, Dylan’s parents say they remain determined to seek justice and are frustrated by what they describe as a lack of progress in the case.
Dylan’s mother, Elsie Bothma, said the family has received limited feedback regarding the investigation.

“We are calling on the community to please come forward. After three years, witnesses still stay silent. The only feedback we have received is that they are still working on Dylan’s case.
“Our concern is the delay because as time passes, evidence is no longer available, people forget, and people move away and are no longer within reach. That makes it harder to find the truth and get justice for Dylan,” she said.
Bothma believes her son’s death has encouraged greater awareness among young people and parents about the dangers that exist in society.
“What happened to Dylan made kids and parents more aware of what is going on in the cruel world we live in. As parents, when we get justice for Dylan, we want to help other parents facing the same struggle to get justice for their children.

“Dylan lived his life to the fullest and he always helped everybody. He always helped everybody and was a loyal, reliable friend people could always count on. We are very proud to be his parents. To the public, be a true friend, be loyal, don’t be a bully, be a real friend because Dylan would have been there for you no matter what. Parents must love their children always and not take them for granted,” she said.
Bothma also appealed to anyone with information to come forward.

“We will not stop being Dylan’s voice and my child deserves justice. If you know something, please come forward. Another year passes without answers, but we remain steadfast as a family to ensuring Dylan is not forgotten and that justice is ultimately served.
