Cambridge FC edge Taff Legends 3-2 in Nigel

Cambridge FC secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Taff Legends FC at Jim Fouché Sports Ground on May 30, with Alizwe Zigwebile scoring twice, including a dramatic 88th-minute winner, to keep the Nigel side's momentum alive heading into their final match of the season.

Cambridge FC showcased their resilience and attacking quality as they secured a dramatic 3-2 victory over Taff Legends FC in a closely contested league encounter at Jim Fouché Sports Ground in Nigel on May 30.

The home side made an energetic start, dominating possession and dictating the tempo from the opening whistle.

Taff Legends, travelling from Tembisa, remained disciplined throughout the first half, defending deep and looking to exploit the flanks in an effort to stretch the Cambridge defence.

Despite the visitors’ tactical approach, Cambridge’s backline remained organised and composed, repeatedly winning possession and building attacks from the back.

The Nigel outfit created several promising opportunities but lacked the finishing touch in front of goal, resulting in a goalless stalemate at halftime. The match opened up after the break when Cambridge were forced into an injury-related substitution, introducing a more attack-minded player.

The tactical adjustment proved decisive as the home side began finding greater success between the lines and in attacking spaces.

Their breakthrough arrived when striker Levaan Rose capitalised on sustained pressure to give Cambridge a deserved 1-0 lead.

Buoyed by the opener, the hosts continued to press forward and were rewarded with a second goal through Alizwe Zigwebile, who produced a composed finish after expertly navigating his way through the Legends defence.

Leading 2-0, Cambridge appeared firmly in control, but Taff Legends refused to surrender. The visitors pulled a goal back against the run of play and gradually grew in confidence as the match entered its closing stages.

Their persistence was rewarded when they converted a penalty to level the scores at 2-2 with just five minutes remaining, setting up a tense finish. Rather than settling for a draw, Cambridge responded positively.

Pushing numbers forward in search of a winner, the hosts found the decisive breakthrough in the 88th minute when Zigwebile struck his second goal of the afternoon to seal a hard-fought 3-2 victory.

The win earned Cambridge a valuable three points as they continue their push towards the end of the season.
