Nigel Gymnastics Club shines as athletes claim 23 medals at Gauteng Festival

Nigel Gymnastics Club athletes impressed at the Level 1 to 3 Gauteng Festival in Pretoria, returning home with 23 medals, multiple top-10 finishes and outstanding individual performances from Liezl Maritz and Alyssa Potgieter.

The Nigel Gymnastics Club produced an outstanding display at the annual Level 1 to 3 Gauteng Festival, with its athletes helping to represent Ekurhuleni with distinction in Pretoria from June 12 to 16.

Competing against some of the province’s best young gymnasts, the Nigel team demonstrated impressive consistency and technical excellence, with several athletes improving on the scores they achieved at the District Competition earlier this season.

Their efforts were rewarded with an impressive overall medal tally of eight gold medals, 10 silver medals and five bronze medals, underlining the club’s continued growth and competitiveness on the provincial stage.

Several gymnasts also secured top-10 finishes in their respective age groups and competition levels. Liezl Maritz delivered one of the standout performances of the festival, claiming first place in her division.
She also recorded the highest scores on the uneven bars (9.35) and balance beam (9.25), finishing with an overall winning score of 9.185.

Alyssa Potgieter enjoyed a successful competition after placing ninth overall while earning the highest vault score in her division with an impressive 9.4. Other top-10 finishers included Carlia Burger and Maddison Shelton, who both secured sixth place in their respective categories; Iliana Swanepoel in eighth place and Mila Stadler, who rounded off the top 10.

The club praised the gymnasts for their commitment and determination throughout the competition, noting that the results reflected months of disciplined training and preparation.
