Heidelberg Hockey Club Ladies secure finals as coach Welsh hails team’s grit and Van Wyk’s heroics
The Heidelberg Hockey Club Ladies have booked their place in the league finals after an impressive season of determination and teamwork. Head coach Rowleën Welsh has praised her players' resilience and paid special tribute to Kayleigh Van Wyk, who returned from a championship-winning Rhino Week.
The Heidelberg Hockey Club League Ladies have capped off an outstanding season by securing a place among the league’s top six teams, earning the opportunity to compete in the finals.
The achievement follows months of consistent performances, teamwork and determination, with the side now preparing to face the region’s best teams in the decisive stages of the competition. Head coach Rowleën Welsh praised her players for their commitment throughout the season.
“Reaching the finals is a proud moment for our club. The players have shown incredible dedication, discipline and resilience throughout the season. Every training session, every match and every challenge has prepared us for this opportunity. We know the competition will be tough, but we are excited and ready to give our very best,” she said.
Welsh also reserved special praise for Kayleigh Van Wyk, who recently represented the Avengers Under-16 Team at the prestigious Rhino Week Tournament from July 4 to 11, where the team was crowned champions.

“Kayleigh’s commitment is exceptional because after helping the Avengers win Rhino Week, she came straight back to represent her club without hesitation.
“Her passion for the game, work ethic and willingness to always give her best are qualities every coach hopes to see in a player.
“We are incredibly proud of her achievements. This season has been about much more than results. We have built a close-knit team, strengthened friendships and created memories that will last a lifetime.
“I want to thank every player, our management team, parents, supporters and everyone who has stood behind us. Their encouragement has played a huge role in helping us reach this stage,” she said.
