Operation Valingozi will test the readiness of emergency management.

Community Awareness to Emergency Response will host an emergency exercise which is aimed at testing the readiness of emergency management on 28 November.

SECUNDA – The Community Awareness to Emergency Response planning committee has named the emergency exercise which will take on 28 November at the Leandra N17 highway off-ramp.

The exercise has been named Operation Valingozi, which means stop the accidents.

The aim of the exercise is to emphasise road safety, to test the readiness of emergency management in Leandra and the whole of Govan Mbeki Municipality.

Ms Ntombifuthi Macheke, Community Awareness to Emergency Response (Caer), Specialist Communications and Branding Emergency Management, said: “Caer uses this as a vehicle to address emergency readiness.

“The simulated accident will involve a collision between a tanker and a bus.

“The impact of the collision will cause the road tanker to rapture and chemical raffinate to spill on the road surface.

“We are working with various stakeholders and the active stakeholders for this specific exercise are Sanral, traffic officers (local and provincial), South African Police Service, EMS, ER24, Langamed, Govan Mbeki fire fighters, Rescue and Disaster Management, Sasol Emergency Management, Megabus, HAMMNET, Highveld Medi-Clinic , Evander Hospital, Sasol Corporate Affairs, Govan Mbeki Municipality Communication, Ridge Times and Secunda fm.”
